Director’s Statement:
Kid Terminator stems from my childhood memories; drawing, running around with toy guns, and shooting silly action movies with friends after school. Blockbuster movies spark my imagination as a child and eventually got me to pursue a career in film in the later years. Over time, I learned that making silly movies for the sake of having fun is much more fun than making films that have to fit a certain convention. Kid Terminator serves as a nostalgic romanticism of my childhood and a reminder of the roots that started my filmmaking journey.
I associate nostalgia with the feeling of longing for a beautiful past. Sometimes I forget that the past has bad moments too. What shapes me as a person now, is a mix of the good and the bad that happened in my life. Behind Kid Terminator’s romantic imagery of a child’s imagination, is a trauma that drives the child’s imagination forward. Trauma and imagination go hand in hand. Whether as a coping mechanism or a driving force that relates to each other.
